Hot Springs, Whale watching, Dolphins & Pristine Nature! - Retreat Coaching | Retreat Training | Retreat Programs | Wanderlust Entrepreneur | Sheri Rosenthal

Walking trails, canyoning, whale watching, swimming with dolphins, diving, fishing, mountain biking, kayaking, surfing, lagoons, hot springs, and stunning food.

So where are you?

I’d put money on the fact you would NEVER guess where this amazing place is!

So that you suffer no longer here’s the scoop! You are in the Azores islands (there are nine of them), 800 miles off the west coast of Portugal (in the Atlantic ocean) on the incredibly pristine island of São Miguel at the Octant Furnas Boutique Hotel, Thermal & Spa.

We’re talking volcanic islands, untouched beauty, awe-inspiring blue lagoons, emerald forests, waterfalls, and fascinating marine life.

Furnas Boutique Hotel, Thermal & Spa

For retreats we’re always looking for a nice mix between single rooms and double rooms for those who want to share and this hotel has both! Perfect for a group.

Rates start at only 130 Euro for the double room, so we are talking REALLY reasonable rates here! And yes – don’t stress – they do have wi-fi which is free.

So let’s talk food here – picture fresh grown greens, delicious traditional Portuguese food – and they even have a wood burning oven, so say hello to delicious pizzas and bruschettas.

Of course there are going to be grills and roasts which are part of Portuguese cuisine – as well as the ever present seafood. The country has a very interesting culinary history certainly worth reading about.

São Jorge cheese is especially popular and comes from the Azores where the very happy cows roam the green meadows – so if you eat dairy you won’t want to miss this!

Last but not least – they make killer espressos and fabulous breads (do not do a gluten free retreat here) and mouth-watering deserts.

Whale watching
If you love dolphins and whales then you are going to be in marine heaven here for sure. Bottlenose Dolphins can be found pretty much year round, but if you have whales on the mind you will want to be there in April & May for the Humpbacks.

But don’t worry if you can’t make it to the island then. The Azores have over 10 kinds of whales and most of them can be found throughout the entire summer time and into the fall.

You’ve got Beaked Whales, Killer Whales, Loggerhead Whales, Pilots Whales, Sei Whales, Blue Whales, Fin Whales, Atlantic Whales, just to mention a few!

It’s cetacean heaven for sure!

Thermal Spa
In the midst of all this beautiful nature let’s NOT forget about the spa and the thermal springs. So the hotel has it’s own thermal swimming pools – both indoor and outdoor. It contains iron water that is at 59F (15C) degrees.

If you go on the island to a natural spring you can find them much hotter – like 98F (37C) to 104F (40C)! Toasty! The waters are considered curative so feel free to soak your aches and pains away.

Keep in mind that the weather is best between June and October with the hottest months being July, August and September. November to January is also lovely but temperatures do go down a bit. February through May tend to be rainy.

Hot Springs
